Ted Lasso S2E10 “No Weddings and a Funeral” - Episode Recap - Ray Taylor Show
Show topic: After Rebecca and Sam spend the night together, they continue their relationship for several weeks. One morning, Rebecca's mother informs her that her father has died. The entire Richmond team comes to the funeral, but Ted has a panic attack and calls Sharon to his flat for a therapy session. Rupert and Bex come to the funeral uninvited and bring their newborn daughter, infuriating Rebecca. Keeley and Sassy deduce that Rebecca is secretly in a relationship, and Keeley correctly guesses it is with Sam. Rebecca reveals to her mother that she does not want to make a eulogy for her father, telling her that she watched him cheat on her as a child, but her mother reveals that she knew and loved him anyway, while knowing that he was not perfect. Rebecca tells her mother that she hates her for allowing him to use her, but she accepts this, saying that she would rather have Rebecca's hate than her indifference. She also reveals that she is nice to Rupert even though she hates him, as she does not want him to know that he can irritate her. At the same time, Ted describes his father's death to Sharon for the first time, before arriving late for the funeral. Instead of giving a traditional eulogy, Rebecca leads the mourners in singing "Never Gonna Give You Up," a song that her parents continued to like and find meaningful even after most people grew sick of it. Using her mother's advice, Rebecca acts nicely toward Rupert after the ceremony, disarming him. At the reception, Jamie tells Keeley that she helped him to become the best version of himself and he is still in love with her, complicating her relationship with Roy. Rebecca pauses her relationship with Sam, fearing emotional pain if it did not work out. However, she and her mother grow closer together, looking at pictures and videos from her childhood, and showing her the music video for "Never Gonna Give You Up" for the first time – confusing her mother, as she had always thought that Rick Astley was black.
