In "The Whale," a reclusive, morbidly obese English teacher, Charlie, tries to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter by offering her $120,000 in his bank account. As Charlie's health rapidly declines, he is visited by a missionary from the New Life Church and his nurse, Liz, who urges him to seek medical care.
