Ted Lasso S2E10 “No Weddings and a Funeral” - Episode Recap - Ray Taylor Show

Ted LassoRay TaylorComment

Show topic: After Rebecca and Sam spend the night together, they continue their relationship for several weeks. One morning, Rebecca's mother informs her that her father has died. The entire Richmond team comes to the funeral, but Ted has a panic attack and calls Sharon to his flat for a therapy session. Rupert and Bex come to the funeral uninvited and bring their newborn daughter, infuriating Rebecca. Keeley and Sassy deduce that Rebecca is secretly in a relationship, and Keeley correctly guesses it is with Sam. Rebecca reveals to her mother that she does not want to make a eulogy for her father, telling her that she watched him cheat on her as a child, but her mother reveals that she knew and loved him anyway, while knowing that he was not perfect. Rebecca tells her mother that she hates her for allowing him to use her, but she accepts this, saying that she would rather have Rebecca's hate than her indifference. She also reveals that she is nice to Rupert even though she hates him, as she does not want him to know that he can irritate her. At the same time, Ted describes his father's death to Sharon for the first time, before arriving late for the funeral. Instead of giving a traditional eulogy, Rebecca leads the mourners in singing "Never Gonna Give You Up," a song that her parents continued to like and find meaningful even after most people grew sick of it. Using her mother's advice, Rebecca acts nicely toward Rupert after the ceremony, disarming him. At the reception, Jamie tells Keeley that she helped him to become the best version of himself and he is still in love with her, complicating her relationship with Roy. Rebecca pauses her relationship with Sam, fearing emotional pain if it did not work out. However, she and her mother grow closer together, looking at pictures and videos from her childhood, and showing her the music video for "Never Gonna Give You Up" for the first time – confusing her mother, as she had always thought that Rick Astley was black.

Show topic: Sharon suffers a concussion after being hit by a car while biking. Ted brings her home from the hospital and sees a number of empty wine and spirit bottles. Rebecca and Sam anonymously arrange a dinner date, and find out upon arriving at the restaurant that they are each other's Bantr matches. Rebecca is initially apprehensive, but Sam convinces her to have dinner with him platonically, which they both enjoy. The two kiss when they return to Rebecca's house, but agree not to escalate the relationship further. Roy is called in to Phoebe's school and realizes that his swearing is having an effect on her. Richmond plays at Wembley Stadium for the first time against Manchester City, but suffers a harsh loss. After the game, Jamie is bullied over the loss by his abusive father in the locker room in front of his teammates and coaches. Jamie finally retaliates and strikes his father, whom Beard escorts out; Roy embraces Jamie, who breaks down crying in his arms. The scene shakes Ted into calling Sharon and confessing that his father committed suicide when Ted was 16. Rebecca and Sam ultimately spend the night together.

Ted Lasso S2E6 “The Signal” - Episode Recap - Ray Taylor Show

Ted LassoRay TaylorComment

Show topic: With Roy Kent on the coaching staff, AFC Richmond is on a hot streak. Coach Beard is back with Jane, which worries Higgins. Ted and Nate advise Higgins against telling him saying it always ruins friendships. Jamie is upset that Roy will not give him coaching advice. Pushed, Roy tells Jamie that at his core he's a "prick" and needs to be less a team player and more his old, selfish great self. Asked when he will know when to be a team player and when to be selfish, Roy tells Jamie he'll give him a unmistakable signal. Rebecca, seeing men from Bantr while continuing to flirt with a mysterious other match, gets a visit from her mother, who has just left her father. Nonplussed, Rebecca tells Ted and Keeley that it happens every few years, but they will soon get back together. Richmond is in the quarter-final of the FA Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. In a close game, all four coaches give Jamie the signal, raising their middle finger at him. Jamie scores. As Richmond continues to lead, Ted has a panic attack and leaves. With Richmond in disarray, Spurs score. When Coach Beard and Roy are unsure what to do, Nate steps in. His changes win the game. Rebecca looks for Ted but cannot find him. It is revealed to the viewer that her mystery Bantr match is actually Sam, which neither is aware of. Higgins tells Beard his concerns and Beard thanks him, but still leaves with Jane. As Dr. Sharon goes to her office, she finds Ted waiting and he asks for help.

Ted Lasso S2E5 “Rainbow” - Episode Recap - Ray Taylor Show

Ted LassoRay TaylorComment

Show topic: Nate, in order to impress his parents on their anniversary, tries to reserve a window seat at their favorite restaurant. He is given a reservation for a seat in the back, instead. Richmond continues to struggle, in part because team captain Isaac is overthinking and struggles to lead. Nate offers to speak to him, which Ted thinks is a joke, insulting Nate. Ted instead reaches out to Roy, who mentored Isaac last season. Roy takes him to a pick-up game him used to play in order for Isaac to reconnect with the in-the-moment feeling players enjoy as a child. While Isaac plays, Ted asks Roy to return to Richmond to coach. Roy turns him down. Nate asks Keeley for help. She and Rebecca teach Nate how to be confident. He follows their advice, which allows him to successfully have his family seated at a window table. Rebecca, meanwhile, has begun talking to someone on Bantr, a dating app Keeley partially owns and which now sponsors Richmond. She receives advice from Keeley and Higgins on relationship as her Bantr match seems to be pushing towards an actual meet-up. Dr. Sharon reaches out to Ted, who turns down her offer to talk. As captain, Isaac is looser as he warms up Richmond for an important match. Watching this on Soccer Saturday, Roy finds himself missing the game, and walks out on the show. He travels to Richmond's stadium, where he walks on the pitch to the applause of the Richmond supporters, and joins Ted's coaching staff. This surprises coach Beard while leaving Nate worried about his place on the staff.

Ted Lasso S2E4 “Carol of the Bells” - Episode Recap - Ray Taylor Show

Ted LassoRay TaylorComment

Show topic: The Christmas episode is a standard of television — and especially of British television, which Ted Lasso is not, but which it sometimes, for brief moments, feels like it is. In this particular Christmas episode, even though Ted is feeling blue, the team finds joy in bonding over dinner, while Roy and Keeley try out door-to-door dentistry.
